Why I hate verum rex? First of all, yozora is nothing but a copy-paste of Riku with a simple color swap lacking any creativity, all while “Disney-fying”. There's no real effort in creation or originality, just a visual rehash that feels hollow. The character designs lack identity and charm, and have no charisma, even the NPCs are better developed. The Gigas, these gigantic robot-like creatures, are just hideous. They look like cheap plastic toys. Their presence completely ruins the aesthetic. It’s no longer a Final Fantasy game. Yes, it may sound trivial, but for me, that changes everything. verum rex has lost the very essence of what made FF Versus XIII so special and unique within the FF universe. Kingdom Hearts is a Disney franchise. And I don’t like Disney. So, verum rex, being integrated into that universe, inherits that connection. It discredits it in my eyes, and completely pulls me out of the experience. And above all, it’s a betrayal to the fans of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It’s been nearly 20 years that many have been waiting for this game. verum rex is not Versus XIII: it’s an insult, a bland imitation that has nothing to do with the original vision. We need to demand a remake of Final Fantasy XV directed by Nomura so that he can finally tell us the true story of FFXV and Noctis and Stella!

The same character also appears in abandoned storyboards, where he is shown taking part in the invasion of Altissia. Years later, the Final Fantasy XV Ultimania revealed that a character named General Safeiroth (サフェイロス将軍) was originally intended to appear in the story before being removed from the game. Regarding him, the book states: "The letters 'SAF' seen on the Imperial Army's landing craft and other military equipment are a symbol representing General Safeiroth's forces, as he was originally planned to appear in the game. Although the character was ultimately removed, the symbol was retained as the emblem of a famous general in the Empire's history." This suggests that Safeiroth was meant to play an important role in the original story of Final Fantasy XV. However, Square Enix has never revealed his final design, his complete backstory, or the exact role he was supposed to play in Nomura's original scenario.
