After a certain age, your parents slowly become your children. They ask simple questions, repeat stories, and depend on your patience the way you once depended on theirs. Very few understand this role reversal. What looks like innocence or inconvenience is really time coming full circle. Don't correct them harshly. Don't rush them. How the fuck are people on minimum wage in the UK supposed to survive on their own? The numbers just don't add up. Working a 37.5-hour week (because unpaid breaks seem to be the norm now) leaves you with roughly £1,700 a month after tax, National Insurance and pension deductions. Rent for somewhere on the cheaper end is around £800 if you're lucky, then you've got £120 council tax, roughly £350 in utilities, and at least £70 a week on food. By the time you've covered the basics, you're left with around £150 for the entire month and that's before paying for transport, dealing with emergencies, or buying anything unexpected. Minimum wage simply isn't enough to cover the cost of living anymore.
