Congratulations to MIA researcher Dr Rebecca Simpson who has been awarded a Cancer Institute NSW 2024 Early Career Fellowship. The @cancernsw fellowships support early and mid-career researchers through the development of research and leadership skills, and innovative approaches to research that will achieve significant patient outcomes. ‘The research program supported by this fellowship seeks to increase our understanding of how gut microbes interact with the immune system to shape patient responses and clinical outcomes,’ Dr Simpson said. ‘This research will enable us to design targeted, evidence-based interventions to improve therapeutic outcomes for patients.’ Read more about Dr Simpson's work and fellowship > bit.ly/4i2lPd7 #ResearchFellowship @Sydney_Uni @syd_health @CPC_usyd

Ultimately, we did not see the anticipated changes in Bifidobacterial species. However, we did see some enrichment in Ruminococcaceae species - based on studies by @_RCSimpson @ProfRScolyerMIA @ProfGLongMIA @JenWargoMD & others, it's possible that this could aid in facilitating IO response. (4/7)

In a ground-breaking study, researchers at Melanoma Institute Aus & Uni of Sydney have proven a link between a patient’s diet, their gut #microbiome & likelihood of response to immunotherapy. #RebeccaSimpson @ProfGLongMIA @syd_health @NatureMedicine > bit.ly/diet-driven-microbiom…

#EXCLUSIVE: Immunotherapy has revolutionised treatment for melanoma, but not everyone benefits from the life-saving drugs. Australian researchers have discovered that a patient's diet could help boost their response. @gabyrogers #9News MORE: 9Soci.al/FbU450KR5JH

Well done Rebecca Simpson from @MelanomaAus @CPC_usyd presented at #ESMO22 #melanoma - longitudinal circulating immune subsets from #neoadjuvant #immunotherapy showing reduced Treg and increased Cd8 T memory in path responders. Now we are linking to #microbiome.
