I feel like now is a good time to put this out there. I HAVE ZERO SOURCES. I’m just as lost as all of you. I just repost what I read or hear, and try to do it so you don’t have to read and listen to a thousand podcasts. That is all. Enjoy trade season.

There is one other play I forgot to mention that came in at 5’10” for draft combine measurements, similar to Braden Smith (who measured at 5’10”). Rick Carlisle’s very own… JJ Barea
For context, these are the draft measurements (or college measurements) for other shorter PGs (w/o shoes): Ryan Nembhard 5’11” Jose Alvarado 5’11” Fred VanVleet 5’11” Chris Paul 5’11.75” Davion Mitchell 6’0” Trae Young 6’0.5” TJ McConnell 6’0.5” Jalen Brunson 6’1”

We all know that Evan Sidery is not a source. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s imagine this were an actual package framework from the Pistons. As a Pacers fan, what is a better offer that you think the Pacers could come up with that you’d support?
A potential trade framework involving Trey Murphy III to the Pistons, who have recently registered interest: Detroit: Murphy Pelicans: Isaiah Stewart, Ron Holland, No. 21 overall, 2028 1st, 2030 1st

“We assume [Trey Murphy] is probably going to get traded over the next 3 weeks. I think Boston is a possibility. We thought whoever lost this matchup was a possibility. There’s a couple other teams. But, you have 2 to 3 weeks to trade for someone like that.” (@rBillSimmonsPod)

An attempt at a “Desmond Bane Type Offer” Pacers: Trey Murphy Pelicans: Obi Toppin or TJ McConnell Jarace Walker Ben Sheppard 1st from 2027, 2031, and 2033 1st round Pick Swaps for 2028 and 2030 I think all of this checks out by NBA rules. Let me know if it doesn’t though.

Thanks @the2kmessiah for catching the 2029 pick that the clippers have.

Pelicans have alluded to needing a Desmond Bane type offer for Trey Murphy. And to be honest, I think they’ll probably get it. Mikel Bridges went for 4 1sts (and a swap). And so did Bane. So the question is, are you willing to trade 3-4 1sts for Trey Murphy, plus salary?

More food for thought: The Clippers will have our pick the year that Siakam, Zubac, and Nembhard will have become free agents. Siakam will be 34 Zubac will be 31 Nembhard will only be 28 What do we think the Pacers will look like for the 28-29 Season to remain competitive?

I see a lot of people asking “what better center could you have gotten for the package.” I think that’s a fair question. Let’s approach it a different way. What would have rather had: Trey Murphy and a lesser Center Or Zubac and a lesser complimentary player
18% Trey Murphy/Lesser Center
82% Zubac/Lesser Comp

2025 Revisionist History: Pacers take Maxime Raynaud instead of Kameron Jones. How would this have changed the Pacers current situation? Kameron Jones selected #38 Maxime Raynaud selected #42

Teams don’t often let players hit UFA. Because of this, the Pacers will be left with the decision at the end of next season to either extend Zubac or trade him. This leverage for Zubac could very likely result in an overpay or a one-year rental. This will be interesting.

Thinking out loud: What is the long-term plan with Zubac? He’ll be 31 by the time he’s an UFA. Do the Pacers plan to resign him? Will they attempt to trade him to risk not losing him for nothing? Did the Pacers pay as much as they did for a 2 year rental?

Every fan base will force a silver-lining. It’s human nature. The Bucks fans did it for the longest time with Myles Turner. I don’t want to be a part of doing the same. Two things can be true: The Pacers overpaid and The Pacers got a very good center for the next 2 years

My only request is that we stop saying “3 years” when referring to Zubac’s deal. For all intents and purposes it’s 2 years. Zubac could sit this entire year and that would make us happier, I would assume (higher chance at a better pick). So let’s just call it 2 years, not 3.

Thanks everyone for playing It’s my fault for not putting the bulk of the information in the initial post. I wanted this to ultimately be a dialogue about at what point from #1-5 would you consider trading for Trey Murphy. Myself, I’m around #4 or #5. Limited characters suck
Hypothetical: Pacers get the number #1 overall pick. You can either draft the pick or trade a package of Toppin/McConnell and Jarace Walker along with the pick for Trey Murphy. Which do you do?
