!!! I think it being flattened into some monoculture or a checklist of things to do to be sanctioned “authentic” is a capitalist endeavor. It’s why we find certain brands corny too trying to sell a culture they didn’t contribute to in any tangible way.
The discourse around what is a staple and what is culturally significant in NYC is always funny because while we all might share some of the same experiences, a lot of our experiences is molded by the borough’s we grew up in.
