Not convinced @readingeggs is the best way to teach my 5yo how to read, and now I find out it’s not a good way to teach Aussie animals either! I can’t believe they’re allowed to have @ABCaustralia branding! How do they get away with it?

I'm always suspicious whenever I hear that NAPLAN stresses students out. Where is that stress actually coming from? I know that a small amount of students get general text anxiety, but for entire classes of students to start freaking out there's something more insidious at play

So much interesting stuff happens when I’m on maternity leave! The FOMO is real (but also 2020 is a great year to be on leave I feel)

Parents are looking for positive information in the midst of hearing about the diagnosis and realistic prognosis. Be ready to listen & respond to questions. Be clear & certain, provide information in writing & follow up meeting. Involve family in treatment plan.

Oh @readingeggs 🤦‍♀️ ‘box’ has 4 sounds, not 3. And ‘kw’ is not a sound.

AAC says when teachers think they have no time for reasonable adjustments, that shows they think of the student with #disability as an "extra", when really #PWD are part of their job as much as any other student. #DisabilityRoyalCommission

Over the past few days since this study was released, I keep coming back to it. Not this study specifically, but the body of work and the professionals that say we need to reduce children’s screen time, and that parent education is the answer. THREAD

A bugbear of mine are SLP reports for bilingual students saying interpret standard scores with caution. Maybe explain exactly what that means. Or maybe don’t report the scores. Or don’t calculate the scores. Or maybe don’t even do a standardised Ax at all?

I’ve long held a suspicion that there is something fundamentally different in the way SLPs and teachers view language disorder and its implications, like we’re talking past each other in some way. Hoping to glean some insights from this paper.

#NZSPAConf I always fear that I'll tweet someone's presentation but misconstrue what they said, and the presenter will read it later like:
