The government has finally U-turned and announced a ban on social media for under-16s. About time. This victory belongs to the brave families and campaigners who never stopped fighting to protect our children from the harms of social media. Kemi is absolutely right. Our Armed Forces cannot defend Britain on empty promises and delayed investment plans. Even Starmer's own Defence Ministers resigned because his plan simply isn't up to scratch. We need to reduce welfare spending to fund our defence.

John Healey, the former Defence Secretary, has acted honourably by resigning. Keir Starmer is too weak to cut welfare and fund defence - as I told him yesterday at PMQs. Only the Conservatives have a plan to put our national security first.

The first duty of any government is to protect the defence and security of our country. But not under this Labour government. Keir Starmer and his Chancellor have put welfare spending over the defence of our country.
