A few shots from the pop up event organised by @EssexBirdNews and @BirdAwareEssex this week. Med gulls, Rock Pipit, Turnstones, and a Shag at the end of Southend Pier was an unexpected treat! 😀
Had a🚶around Brightlingsea this morning. Nice to see Yellowhammer, and had this Sparrowhawk fly right past me too. Then back to Colchester for a cracking Firecrest - thanks to @simonpatient1. @EssexBirdNews
Day 2 of Big County Birdwatch #BCBW. This time, I had an hour at Abberton. In addition to what’s shown in the photos, other highlights included, 2 Black Necked Grebe, Marsh Harrier and Ruff. @EssexBirdNews@EssexWildlife
With @EssexBirdNews Big County Birdwatch upon us, I managed to get a couple of hours in at Mersea this evening. Had a nice showy Corn Bunting and several Stonechat as the best of 30 species seen. #BCBW
Having never seen them before, to have the northern lights visible in Essex last night, was quite something. Mersea Island.

Tree Pipit and Spotted Flycatcher from West Mersea, Essex - seen yesterday. The Pipit was a great find by @merseabirder!! Also, a Med Gull and Wheatear from today. @EssexBirdNews
I was extremely pleased to add Wryneck to my life list today ✅ . Also added Red-backed Shrike to my list for the year. Both at the Naze this morning. @EssexBirdNews#BirdsSeenIn2024
News received already regarding the Sandwich Tern I reported earlier. ‘368’ was ringed as a chick on 04/07/24 at RSPB Langstone Harbour in Hampshire. Mine is the first report received. Nice @Natures_Voice
After the mist lifted, it was a lovely morning at Languard today. Lots about including several Wheatear, Whinchat, skulking Warblers and a ringed juv Sandwich Tern (reported). Great to meet @Lesliecater1 too!
Snuck into Suffolk after failing to find the Red Backed Shrike in Essex this morning ☹️. Suffolk was kinder to me with Curlew Sand and 3 Whinchat. @Natures_Voice
