Yes local press always had freedom the corporates didn’t and many celebrated journalists learned their craft there, e.g. Robert Fisk. So many bright young people who would have once aspired to enter journalism to hold the powerful to account, will now end up in PR or marketing.

There are very few remaining mainstream platforms for what could be confidered genuine journalism these days. LBC used to at least provide some element of intellectual freedom for presenters that wasn’t available on say the BBC or Sky, however that space has closed since Gaza.
