Master the skill of adaptability, not perfection.
The real skill in shooting is not having PERFECT habits. There is no such thing. The real skill coaches should be helping players build is the ability to adapt their habits.
This player asked me the ideal way to distribute weight on his feet in a shot. The honest answer is there is no one way. Different movements will require slightly different solutions. So rather than trying to teach one way, coaches should be presenting players with little problems to solve and guiding them towards ways to solve that problem.
The way a player might need to distribute their weight across their foot when moving backwards will be different than the way a player needs to distribute their weight when moving forwards or sideways. So rather than tell a player "you need to do it this way," a coach needs to help players understand their goal in each situation (in this case, be balanced when moving) and design practice to help them discover the solutions.
Apply this in your next session, notice how adapting habits in each situation improves your balance and control. Share your insights below.

If you’re looking for an example if a solidly pieced highlight clip. Look no further. 15 seconds. Rip through low and under pressure, rebounds and scores in traffic, corner three and a chase down block in transition.
