Remember: The OFQUAL report (below) established that 0.52 (or 52%) is the probability of a student receiving their exact, definitive grade in English. Compare this to Mathematics, which has a probability of 0.96... assets.publishing.service.go…

In what world is a reality star boasting that they failed all of their exams and don’t understand basic maths a good look for a PR stunt for the Department for Education? Words fail me.

Due to an irritating technical issue, if I could ask all of those lovely teachers to spend a quick 5 minutes on this survey for some research, I'll be eternally grateful! @Team_English1 @LitdriveUK forms.office.com/r/wK6z0TYN3…

NEW RESOURCE: Tried @zssnas style prompts for structured conversations about poetry with Year 10 this week. Worked brilliantly - rehearsal discussions had before diving into the anthology and the presentation of the power of nature. Slides attached. Use/chuck as you see fit! dropbox.com/scl/fo/pvd9nnlvg…

Strong KS3 does not begin in Year 10. It begins in Year 7, when pupils are given serious texts, serious ideas and serious intellectual attention. KS3 isn’t the bridge, it’s the foundation. myattandco.com/ks3-the-ambit…

Update - Year 11 did loads of choral response with me today and it was brilliant. Although, they told me that they “lost aura” by doing so… I’ll take that as a win 😂
Loved @SPryke2 delivering on “hands up, minds on” @researchEDWarr today. So many takeaways that are instantly achievable. Thank you 🙏

Use subject vocabulary from the start. Language is not a reward for understanding. It is the means by which understanding develops. Year 7 is not a settling-in period. It's the first chapter of an ambitious story.

As inspiring as ever @MaryMyatt at @researchEDWarr ♥️ Important reminder - they CAN do it if we invite them to do so and, most importantly, provide the conditions to do so.

Secondary schools receive data, but they rarely receive information about the curriculum. They know what score a pupil achieved, but they don't know what they've read, written, discussed, or argued. And in the absence of that knowledge, the professional default is to begin again

What strong KS3 looks like and how to make it happen in practice I’ve pulled this together in a new book: KS3 The Ambitious Years (published 2 June) It’s not a set of quick fixes. More a framework for thinking clearly about Years 7–9. /1
