As a result of a blame-game between the government and local authorities, there are 1000’s of teachers desperate for permanent jobs who are facing unemployment or zero-hours contracts come August. It is an utterly disgraceful and depressing situation.

Last week @_MissMcAuley contacted me on behalf of Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) worried about jobs next year. I met an inspiring group on Monday. Today I announced we will work with Councils so all NQTs who have reached the standard secure jobs this year. Our schools need you.

Education Secretary, John Swinney admitting that exams are a “stressful time” for students and to “seek assistance” if they need it.
Why are the Scottish Government condoning a qualifications system that puts good grades before wellbeing and mental health?
It is beyond me.

From tomorrow over 130,000 young people across Scotland will be finalising their Nat 1 to Nat 4 qualifications, Skills for Work courses and other awards or sitting Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher exams.

League tables result in nothing more than a competitive culture between schools and an increase in teachers ‘teaching to the test’, ignoring the well-being of pupils. There are so many aspects to an education which exam results cannot measure. The tables are toxic and should go.
