A few replies and quotes have made a couple things clear -
There's no concept of individualism in India. Every win, every success, every thing that's good, bad, beautiful, or ugly HAS to be shared with the parents.
Well, I choose to follow a different ideology in my life. I, live and exist for me. I'll win for me, I'll fail for me, I'll live and die for me.
My actions and choices are dictated by ME, and nobody else.
I'm not saying that those who don't are wrong. They have their own ideals, and I respect that. But from a few replies, it's clear that they don't respect mine, so it's on.
God forbid someone puts up an opinion online in hopes of having a discussion. But it's India, we simply love to abuse anyone with a view that opposes ours, don't we?
And lastly, I love my parents to death, you fools. But I cannot ignore that financial literacy has never been their strong suit.
Do whatever you wish, but DO NOT TELL YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS HOW MUCH YOU MAKE.
Not even your parents. It'll make your life hell.
