We recently learned that Ms. Cox, the Texas woman seeking an emergency abortion in Texas, left the state to seek much needed medical care. It’s unconscionable Texas policymakers force her & other Texas women to leave their homes & communities to receive the care they need. 1/2

All of us in Ob/Gyn nodding in agreement 👀 Also, Williams is the reason that OB and Gyn are pigeoned into one specialty instead of two, causing centuries of harm to the way we deliver care to women because he didn’t want to be called a “man midwife”
A small act of resistance from the female indexer of the 1980 edition of Williams Obstetrics.

The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson is a destructive setback for ob-gyns and patients. However, we’ll continue with unwavering resolve to support all people who struggle against interference with the patient–physician relationship.

3 dissenters, Justices Breyer, Sotomayor and Kagan write "In overruling Roe and Casey, this Court betrays its guiding principles. With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent."

#BREAKING The #Oklahoma governor just signed a *total* abortion ban with a Texas-style enforcement mechanism. It goes into effect immediately making Oklahoma the first state to totally outlaw abortion since #RoeVWade in 1973. What this means 🧵

Oklahoma’s newly passed abortion ban is a gross interference with the patient—clinician relationship. It forces personal beliefs onto others and strips women and pregnant people of their bodily autonomy. ACOG wholly condemns this egregious assault on patients and clinicians.

For a country that is so anti-mandate it’s a big leap to mandate pregnancy on millions of women. #WomensRights #RoeVWade #abortionrights #abortionishealthcare

I frequently get asked why time and again I’ve chosen not to move back to my home state—harmful and heartbreaking decisions like this are one reason why. Saddened but not surprised.
Breaking News: Oklahoma lawmakers approved a near-total ban on abortion as the Supreme Court weighs a case that could overturn Roe v. Wade later this year. nyti.ms/3NP7O4M

From afar, we admire talent. Up close, what counts most is character. You can impress people with your skills, but you earn their trust by standing for something greater than yourself. There is no higher achievement than treating others kindly and living with integrity.

Excellent talk tonight by @alexbcarter to @BrownOWIMS on negotiation and asking for more. An important perspective on owning our accomplishments, especially during this residency interview season. Thank you!

Pregnancy is not a health-neutral event. There are immediate and long term adverse health effects. In the US, without paid sick or parental leave, it is a financial & economic hardship to be pregnant and give birth. Birthing & adoption are not reasonable alternatives to abortion.

When you say, “Just let Texas secede”, Texans fighting for change hear, “Your work doesn’t matter.” Support us instead. We’re here. We’re fighting. And most Texans agree with us.

Had a patient tell me yesterday, “You know it’s weird I don’t even talk to my best friends about this stuff. Yet here I am telling it to a complete stranger who I trust.” And that’s why for me, practicing medicine is a privilege.
