Outbidding another animal organization for the purchase of beagles from a commercial research/breeding operation: Ethical? Or should we all just be happy the dogs are free and stop asking questions? "There have been a lot of questions and volunteer inquiries from folks that assisted with us for the May 11-14 and June 4th rescues at Dane County Humane Society. Unfortunately, Center for a Humane Economy will not have any role in the transfer of the remaining dog from Ridglan. The attached press release explains how another organization decided to pay more than we were willing to pay for the remaining dogs. Our goal was to get the remaining dogs out safely and not make Ridglan wealthy in the process. We stuck to that. "On June 2, 2026, Ridglan’s counsel reached out to the Center’s attorney and proposed a sale of the remaining 475 dogs – 325 now and 150 later this summer, after a testing protocol concludes with that latter group of dogs.
