20 years into this "crisis" we are still politely tinkering. It's time to play a much bigger game. We need emergency access to buprenorphine, with or without a prescription.

If another medication increased the likelihood of successful treatment by 2 it would be considered a miracle drug, yet there are still barriers for patients seeking buprenorphine treatment. People tell me that the barriers are often insurmountable. As a result, people die.

We miss our girl every second of every day, a grief that is as much a part of us now as our blood & bones. Helping ppl who are suffering like she did is one of the few ways we can mitigate that pain.

This weekend was the 5th anniversary of my youngest sister's death while incarcerated. And it's the 4th anniversary of my middle sister's fundraiser for ppl like Maddie: ppl who are unhoused, have SUD, are caught up in the legal system.

Proposals that would vilify and criminalize unhoused people instead of supporting them are disappointing and concerning.
Municipalities should prioritize compassionate responses at the local level and advocate for meaningful statewide policy solutions.

We have made sure those who use alcohol and cannabis have access to a legal, safe and regulated drug supply. Time to do the same for those who are struggling to survive opioid use disorder and are at extreme risk for overdose death every day. š
