Respectfully, I disagree.
Yes, WMATA needs dedicated funding to maintain and improve the system we have today. That's non-negotiable.
But that doesn't mean we should stop planning for tomorrow.
The region should have a long-range Metro expansion plan on the books even if construction is decades away. The Purple Line wasn't built or funded overnight. Neither was Silver Line Phase.
If we wait until funding appears before deciding where the next lines should go, we've already fallen behind.
A Columbia Pike line. A separated Blue Line. A downtown loop. New connections between regional job centers.
Great regions don't just fund infrastructure.
They plan for it years before the money arrives.
The Washington region is expected to add a lot more residents this century. We should be having a serious conversation about what Metro looks like in 2050 and 2100 not just how it looks today. 🚇

Sure that’d be great…but reminder that we have yet to secure DMMMoves dedicated funding from our 3 state partners that will prevent a major cut to our state of good repair capital maintenance program. Need funding to maintain what we have before we can expand despite wanting to

every so often I think about how when I first came out my father remarked that years ago he had mentioned to my mother that I might be trans, they of course never brought it up or really let me know that some people change their gender and that it was an acceptable thing to do
