“When the moment comes to choose between comfort and conscience, choose conscience.” Pro-Palestine activist Mahmoud Khalil delivered a speech to Stanford graduates at a "People's Commencement" Sunday after their mass walkout during graduation. The graduates' walkout occurred during Google CEO Sundar Pichai's commencement speech, as a protest against the tech company's contracts with the IDF, CBP, and ICE. Khalil, who was detained last year by ICE for over three months for his role as lead negotiator at Columbia University's Gaza Solidarity Encampments, urged the students to keep building the movement for Palestine, assuring them, "History remembers those who speak up." This year marked the third People’s Commencement at Stanford, organized by students and activist groups.

Netanyahu gave a speech today trying to paint the war in Iran as a success for Israel. But even a cursory comparison between what he said now and what he said before and during the war reveals the level of deception and bullshit at hand: 1) The war's defining goal. The GPO published his Feb 28 words: Israel and the US launched an operation "to remove the existential threat." Still live on the PMO site. Tonight: "I know what I defined. The goal was to distance the danger." Remove became distance. 2) Regime change. Feb 28: strike the regime and "create conditions that will enable the Iranian people to cast off the yoke of this murderous regime." Tonight: "should they wish... there are cracks, but I can't say when it will fall." A stated aim is now an open-ended maybe. 3) The nuclear line. This one he keeps word for word. Feb 28 and tonight: "With a deal, without a deal, Iran will not have a nuclear weapon. Not today and not tomorrow." It is the one claim the ceasefire hasn't contradicted, so it stays front and center. 4) Were the goals met. Late March he said over half his military aims were achieved and "Iran can no longer threaten our existence." Tonight the frame shifts from victory to rescue: "we saved Israel from nuclear annihilation," with a new caveat: "the struggle is not over." 5) Ballistic missiles. He demanded caps. In Feb he said any deal must include "restrictions on ballistic missiles." By March 19 he claimed Iran had "no ability to produce ballistic missiles." Tonight: "we destroyed missiles and most of the factories." The deal sets no limits. A demand became a damage claim. 6) Drones and proxies. During the war, ending the proxy threat was central. In the ceasefire's first hours, Hezbollah was still firing drones into northern Israel. Tonight he leans on the security zones, but the deal reportedly winds down the Lebanon front, exactly where the drones come from. 7) Money and sanctions. For a decade his signature line was that any deal hands Iran "hundreds of billions" for terror. The memorandum reportedly releases ~$12B and builds sanctions relief to "integrate Iran into the 21st century economy." Tonight he says nothing about the money. 8) The four demands. Last Thursday he set four conditions: remove enriched material, dismantle enrichment, cap missiles, end proxy support. The memorandum drops all four for reopening Hormuz. Tonight: "this deal was made by the US." He no longer names the demands it abandoned. 9) Trump. Feb 28: "Trump is Israel's greatest friend ever to sit in the White House." Tonight: "there are cases where we see eye to eye, and cases less so." The superlative is gone, replaced by daylight from the man who made the deal. The truth is that none of the Israeli goals were accomplished in this war. Instead, Iran is stronger than before, more stable and has more allies and money. Meanwhile, Israel has lost its main strategic asset, the unconditional support of the United States.
