[ABA Antitrust Daily Digest June 10, 2026] US judge OKs Visa, Mastercard $38 billion swipe fee settlement (Reuters) A U.S. judge on Tuesday granted preliminary approval to Visa's and Mastercard's revised $38 billion settlement with merchants who accused the card networks of charging too much to process payments on their credit cards. U.S. District Judge Brian Cogan in Brooklyn, New York, said the settlement was "fair, reasonable, and adequate," and that he was likely to eventually grant final approval. The settlement announced in November was intended to end litigation that began in 2005, when merchants accused Visa, Mastercard and banks of conspiring to violate U.S. antitrust laws, including through the collection of "swipe fees." msn.com/en-us/money/companie…

The lawsuit centers around the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s landmark settlement in In re College Athlete NIL Litigation, also known as the “House settlement,” which included a cap on NIL payments, according to the complaint in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The settlement imposed an annual $20.5 million cap on direct NIL payments to athletes and placed restrictions on compensation from boosters and school-affiliated collectives, according to the suit. news.bloomberglaw.com/litiga…
