Data is easy. Decision-making is hard. Most research tells you what changed and stops there. That’s not enough in a world defined by uncertainty, precarity, and rapid shifts in public mood. We go further. We translate evidence into judgment and insight into action. If your research isn’t helping you decide what to do next, it isn’t finished.

Have we hit peak Carney? On this week's Hub Politics, we debate whether Mark Carney's honeymoon is ending, what new polling says about public opinion, and why AI may be emerging as Canada's next major political issue. youtu.be/3d3XERv5H_I?si=W_1r…

Just finished two national surveys in Canada and the United. Unpacking all the insights but this struck me. "I feel the economic and political system is rigged against ordinary people." Canada: 47% think this statement applies to them. USA: 53% think this statement applies to them. Reminder: We are not as different as we think. The same forces pulling Americans and Europeans to extremes exist in Canada as well. #cdnpoli #uspoli #publicopinion

Working with @EddieShepp on an extension of our precaritymindset.com work. This study was designed to answer a question I have been asked at nearly every keynote I have delivered this year: Is this a Canadian phenomenon, or is it bigger than that? Does the precarity mindset travel? And if it does, how does it express itself in an American frame, in a country with a different political culture, a different safety net, a different relationship to risk, and a national mythology built on the idea that anyone can make it? The short answer, based on these first toplines: the precarity mindset travels. Majorities in both countries report the core markers of precarity, from difficulty making long-term plans to a sense that daily life is increasingly unpredictable to the conviction that government will not protect them from the next shock. The planning horizons of Canadians and Americans have collapsed to almost identical degrees. Both populations are overwhelmingly focused on the bottom two rungs of the hierarchy of needs.

In the field now with a survey of Canadians and Americans, exploring the concept of precarity mindset in both countries. Despite what we might think about our differences, the similiarities in perceptions about uncertainty, insecurity, and financial stress are pretty similar in both. I'll have a full report on this work out in July.
