Pokémon GO updated the Hindi text in 0.415.0, but didn't fix how the font displays it
The proper names are Pidgeot (पिजिऑट) and Squirtle (स्क्वर्टल)
- The old version (left) had the proper names when displayed
- The new version (right) has the proper names in the native input

In Devanagari, the vowel "i" is positioned before the consonant, which the text engine doesn't handle correctly
The consonants also form context-dependent ligatures, which the text engine doesn't support either (but the text would still be read correctly, at least)
ALT The names of Pidgeot (पिजिऑट/Pijiŏṭ) and Squirtle (स्क्वर्टल/Skvarṭal), color-coded so that each Devanagari letter is colored the same in the corresponding transliteration

Apparently, Japanese players of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl noticed lots of Pokémon from Afghanistan on the GTS, and attributed them to U.S. troops stationed there
But the more likely reason is that "Afghanistan" was just the first option when picking a country from the list

Apparently Korean and overseas versions of the Generation 4 Pokémon games could trade via the GTS
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the changes that were made to Korean Pokémon were well documented, so I'm trying to find out some more details

Based on blog posts from the time, it seems that
- Korean Pokémon without nicknames had their names changed to English
- Returning them to a Korean game changed the name back to Korean
- Trainer names were changed to generic names such "Han", "Hwang", "Jeong", and "Ahn"

- How nicknames with hangul were handled
- Whether nicknames/Trainer names with no hangul were changed
- If there were other Trainer names besides those 4
- How the replacement Trainer name was determined (maybe related to gender/ID No.)

Looks like they've updated the Vietnamese Pokédex to use English names instead of Japanese names
They've been using romanized Japanese names for a long time, so I wonder how long it'll take for other media to follow suit
