In a pause from marking I took myself off to The Motive and the Cue. An incredible and hugely enjoyable production. It thinks really interestingly about the contingencies of fame and performance, failure, and Shakespeareanism so perfect research for my bad!Shakespeare project.
I disliked the ending though, which in its combination of postscripts explaining Burton's and Gielgud's success, the soundtrack (Zadok the Priest) and Burton in the Yorick pose, overdetermines the subsequent moment of performance.
We're left in no doubt that Burton will triumph, when I wanted uncertainty and possibility - the collective inhale that Branagh described when playing Hamlet. Also, justice for Elizabeth Taylor who deserves a postscript too! Tuppence Middleton is a delight.
Come and join me in thinking about defining Shakespeareanism, bad!Shakespeare, casting, accessability and more!

Accessibility affects more than options in menus. The tools and systems we rely on to make games are just as important. For my latest @WIRED feature, I had the opportunity to interview 3 disabled voice actors. Read more here:

Oppenheimer was impressive; it combined the biopic genre w. Nolan's characteristic interests plus A* editing sound design. But my god, at this point I would like for him to not include women in his films, if he can only imagine them in such limited patronising ways.
So, this is your yearly reminder to check on the Christopher Nolans in your life. They're not okay and need permission to feel all of the big feelings they think only women can make with their faces.
Today marks 30 years since filming started on Andrew Davies' adaptation of Middlemarch and our latest blog is now live!

Our Missy came from Dogs Trust Kenilworth, who rescued her from a pound in Ireland. She had clearly been..
...Bred for coursing and abandoned when no longer needed. She has scars all over and a lasting fear of other dogs. But she's getting to live her best life now and so many other pups deserve the same future 💛
