This area was never meant to support 18 million people. Fire resistant native plants replaced by flammable invasive palms, the prescribed burns that Chumash used to stop wildfires were banned. LA is burning because of the hubris of colonialism, & the most marginalized suffer.
Watching video after video of invasive plants exploding like fireworks in what was once a resilient, fire-adapted landscape and thinking about all the apologists who are like “what does ‘invasive’ even really mean, man? That’s just, like, a construct”

Polynesians had settled an area the size of Russia before the British could even cross the English Channel. But the anonymous X accounts of this world insist Polynesian civilisation was primitive.

Maybe as you reconnect w your iwi/hapū/marae/papakāinga etc you can ask yourself - what can I do for them? Before wondering what they can do for you on your reclaimation journey. Because I guarantee there's a tea towel waiting for you at the end of it as well as people willing

I work in comms and whoever's call it was to cut the beginning of TJ's part in the ABs haka for socials surely thought about the risk of doing that? Whether that comms/socials manager supports Toitū te Tiriti or not, it's a major reputational risk to do that

ESPECIALLY the same week as the massive hīkoi in Pōneke 🤦🏻‍♀️ it's just a comms 101 thing: use common sense lmao look at what's going on in the world rn and think, will this cause more or less damage to the brand?

Whoever had a sign that straight up just said 'HŌHA' at the hīkoi, what a way to capture the vibes 👏🏻🤣

I'm feeling the wairua, the anticipation, the significance of today even from Tāmaki Makaurau. Kia haumaru te haere kia koutou e hīkoi ana ki Pōneke i te rā nei. To those of you marching in Pōneke today, go safely. We're all with you. Toitū te Tiriti! ✊🏻

So what's going to happen when the international racists try to email our tweets supporting the hīkoi for Toitū Te Tiriti / the haka in Parliament to our bosses and they find out we either: work for kaupapa Māori, have Māori bosses, work in Māori teams or all of the above? 💀

this is why we can't take some non-Māori takes on the haka in Parliament seriously because you look dumb saying 'if you can't verbally debate your ideas' when that haka was communicating very clearly how a lot of us feel but you don't understand it so you post nonsense like this
The world has respected the haka for decades. The Māori Party (TPM) destroyed that respect in seconds with their selfishness. If you can’t verbally debate your ideas in Parliament you shouldn’t be in there.

'the world has respected the haka for decades' *the "world" continues to steal it for its own use without permission using it in contexts it shouldn't be used in and used incorrectly* (think the Wild Child movie lol)
