As a human rights activist, I have always been happy to call out the Gardaí when I’ve seen them being heavy-handed. In November 2010, I spoke on the steps of Pearse Street Garda Station to condemn the unwarranted heavy-handed policing at a student protest. #fuelprotest

On the whole, compared with many other police forces in Europe, and certainly further afield, the Gardaí do their utmost to support the communities they serve.

Targeting individual officers and their families is not only unfair and counterproductive, it undermines the very principles of fairness and decency that genuine protesters claim to uphold. Legitimate criticism is one thing; personal vendettas are quite another.
The Government missed a trick by not moving the #LateLate Country Special forward by a week.
Imagine the tractors realising they’d have to drive home in time to watch it.
