It's outrageous I'm having to write this, but the UK Gov have defined ANOTHER rail project that is only in England as Eng & Wal. This time it's... wait for it... Northern Powerhouse Rail is defined as being beneficial enough for Wales to mean we miss out on cash. (Angry) Thread

'How many have gone to Rwanda so far?' 'Zero.' Almost 400,000 asylum claims could have been handled with the money the government has already committed to the Rwanda policy, @helenhoddinott tells @mrjamesob.

So satisfying when a Tory gets trapped in their own lies… This, on the bullshit line that drilling in the North Sea will bring us energy security, was a joy to watch.

Replying to @AndrewRTDavies
more decisions about spending – including the allocation of funding streams that replace EU money – were being made in London rather than Cardiff. “When the money came through Europe, the decisions about how to spend it were made in Wales. Now they’re all made in Whitehall.” The Welsh finance minister, Rebecca Evans, said: “We are not requesting any additional funding, just the freedom to deploy our existing budget in a way that enables us to deliver our priorities without the artificial straitjacket of our current unsatisfactory fiscal framework.” She also warned: “These pressures we have sought to address this year will be even more difficult next year.” Welsh financial crisis is symptomatic of increasing and wider attacks on their finances by some parts of the UK government, which add to spending pressures. They believe hostile ministers in Whitehall deliberately make some spending decisions to undermine devolved governments, and are centralising spending and policies that should be controlled in Edinburgh, Cardiff or Belfast to boost Conservative political and policy agendas. “This isn’t a glitch; it’s a feature,” said a senior source. Written Statement: Loss of funding to Wales as a result of the UK Government’s arrangements for replacement EU funding On 13 April 2022, the UK Government published plans for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), which replaces the European Regional Development and European Social Funds. I want to update Members on the funding implications of this announcement for Wales. The UK Government has failed to honour repeated promises that Wales would not be a penny worse off at the same time as deliberately overriding Welsh devolution. The UK Government had a clear manifesto pledge in the 2019 election to replace and “at a minimum match the size” of former EU funding in each nation of the UK. The calculation we have used to demonstrate the dramatic reduction in the funds Wales would have received had the UK Government delivered its pledge follows the methodology used by the UK Government in relation to the UKSPF. The EU Regional Development and Social Funds would have been worth £1.404bn for the period January 2021 to March 2025, allowing for inflation and exchange rates in the same way as the UK Government has when calculating the level of UKSPF funding to be allocated to Wale Taken together, the £243m loss in rural funding and the £772m shortfall in EU structural funds (table 2) add up to just more than £1bn. Applying the same inflation adjustment to rural funding as to the structural funds, the overall shortfall to the Welsh budget is more than £1.1bn. These figures do not take into account the losses of funding from our access to other EU funding programmes, including Erasmus, Horizon and European Territorial Co-operation which have not been fully replaced by the UK Government. gov.wales/written-statement-…

The Government think slashing benefits or scrapping legal aid is a great bullying tactic to get people into work but fail to remember the real life consequences. Stephen Smith👇🏽 was 6 stone and had several health conditions. The DWP said he was ‘fit and capable of finding work’. He tried to fight it. They still cut his benefits. He later died.
