Watched a load of the rolling “classic World Cup” channel on iplayer this morning and one thing is for sure, early 2000s Lawro would NOT have approved of mid-half water breaks in the absence of extreme heat

Ashamed to say that until I saw it pointed out, the premise being “choose Scotland” (other than the trainspotting ref) is because Italy aren’t in the World Cup and therefore need to choose a team to support had totally passed me by 🙈

For goodness sake Morgan and Bellingham have got me holding my hands up apologetically for doubting the inclusion of Henderson in the squad what is happening? 🤣

Extremely non-edgy opinion on England that I am not proud of: Anderson next to Rice looks an absolutely quality combination

Cristiano was too late for the Figo/Rui Costa/Joao Pinto golden generation and now he’s going to cripple the latest golden generation because look at this line up and how is a 40yo lone striker being the only player getting 90 mins in a friendly the day before the tournament 🙈🤣
This is killing me man

I mean a shame for him that if either of those teams had him in his prime they would probably have swept the board for a decade. But this Portugal team would have to literally carry him across the line, and they still might actually be good enough to.

Much as I love Rogers, I find it hard to comprehend leaving Bellingham out. But (and he doesn’t look like he will do this but still) the obvious solution seems to play Rice/Bellingham/Rogers especially against teams we should dominate. Anderson only if defensive shape required.
"I don't see a situation where Bellingham starts the first game!" 👀 Jude Bellingham or Morgan Rogers, who gets the nod for England's World Cup opener? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

None of these clips ever include the atmosphere when the game is actually being played 🤣 Nice concert venue but show me something that compares with the noise in Villa Park when McGinn scored the third v Forest in the Europa league semi final *occurring during an actual match*
There’s not a single European stadium that comes close to this

The American mind can’t comprehend how the Hollies stand at Edgbaston is better than all four of these let alone football grounds 🤣
The European mind simply can't comprehend the average SEC football stadium

Take for sake of argument, Ivory Coast v Ecuador in the group stages. Imagine it was played in 28000 seater historic ground like Craven Cottage and was majority fans of each nation. It would be a thousand times better than 60,000 neutrals who paid £1000 for a random game.

Genuinely you could have an incredible World Cup in London alone let alone England or GB, if you embraced having smaller grounds for nations with smaller followings but ensured proper allocations to the involved nations. Atmosphere would be immense.

There is an argument that if soccer was more prominent in the sporting hierarchy in the US they would be better, but this isn’t it. If LeBron, Sanders and Moss played soccer all their lives it’s 99% certain Pulisic would still be their best soccer player.
I’m under the belief that if America’s best athletes like Randy Moss, Deion Sanders, LeBron etc played soccer their whole lives the U.S. would win literally every #WorldCup.

Conversely, Pulisic was absolutely never becoming an NBA or NFL player (except kicker). But the point is you actually have to be good at soccer, the elite athleticism is essentially a secondary consideration.

My main takeaway is Jordan Henderson needs to be nowhere near the pitch under any circumstances. Also that we really don’t need to play Rice AND Anderson against weaker teams we will dominate. Both are class but Rice doesn’t need a second pivot if we have 70 % possession.
England 1 New Zealand 0. Report from Raymond James Stadium, Tampa. We learned exactly what? That Harry Kane is vital. Marcus Rashford is in the mood and in form (they go together). Elliot Anderson is class. Rio Ngumoha lovely on his debut - on the right (wrong) flank. And that Jude Bellingham has to start. When Bellingham got off the coach, he was loudly cheered by 400 England fans waiting. Only Kane got close to such a reception. When Bellingham ran out for the second half, and his name was announced, England fans amongst the 25,889 crowd again cheered loudly. Bellingham is appreciated because he makes things happen. Thomas Tuchel has mainly favoured Morgan Rogers at 10. Tuchel sees Bellingham in training, can assess the blends of players and personalities, and what suits the team best. So it was good that Tuchel handed the armband to Bellingham when Kane went off at the break. It shows that England’s head coach does trust Bellingham, that the 22-year-old – still only 22 – can embrace the responsibility. This was his 47th cap, he’s heading into his fourth tournament with England, Bellingham deserves Tuchel’s belief.  Bellingham has to start for England. At 10. Coming on at the break, he immediately made a difference to the pace and focus of England's movement in the final third. Such clever movement, gliding stealthily into space. His touch and awareness of team-mates' positions allows him to pick them out first time. England will need that speed of ball progression. Offers a goal threat, raiding the box or shooting, first one blocked, second one wide. His footwork and awareness around the box was again impressive, and Kane will surely benefit from being in tandem with Bellingham. Elite operators. For England to progress far at the World Cup, Bellingham has to start. #ENG #ENGNZ
