A lot of app founders are leaving ASO traffic on the table because of how they use the keyword field.
Here are some of the biggest ones:
Stop repeating full keyword phrases
❌ "ai photo editor, ai avatar maker, ai headshot"
âś… "ai,photo,editor,avatar,maker,headshot"
Apple combines keywords automatically.
Otherwise, you’re just wasting character space.
Remove spaces after commas
❌ "photo, editor, ai"
âś… "photo,editor,ai"
Tiny optimization, but keyword space is extremely limited.
Singular keywords are usually enough
❌ "stickers, wallpapers, filters"
âś… "sticker,wallpaper,filter"
Apple already understands plural forms.
Don’t waste space on words Apple ignores
Words like “app”, “the”, “best”, “for”, etc. usually bring almost zero value.
Never repeat keywords already in your app title or subtitle
Apple already indexes them heavily.
Use the keyword field for additional coverage instead.
Use all 100 characters
Even medium-relevance keywords can help Apple better understand your app category.
Put your highest-priority keywords earlier
Keyword order still matters more than most people expect.
