I keep thinking about how traumatized my and my parentsβ and grandparentsβ generations were by the footage of the JFK shooting. I was very little but we all stood in front of our televisions when the recording was released and it still replays in my mind. Iβm so sorrowful for the life lost at the rally and for the trauma of a crowd reacting to gunfire but Iβm also profoundly grateful the bullet failed its full intention. For Trump and his loved onesβ sake certainly. But also because this generation would have taken that horrific sight to the grave.
These are such perilous times. My scripture reading this morning ended with the words of Jesus,
βIn this world you will have trouble.β
Lord Jesus, weβre having trouble down here. Trouble heaped upon trouble!
βbut take heart!β
Jesus, sometimes it feels like we have lost our hearts entirely. Help us find them again. Hate has overwhelmed us. Unstopped, this violence will destroy us.
βI have overcome the world.β
You and you alone. You, Jesus. There is only you. Overcomer, come quickly.
