Himpunan projek-projek peribadi saya: 1. Perlu Kopi Sebuah direktori pemanggang biji kopi tempatan, terutamanya biji kopi yang dipanggang untuk filter coffee. Saya nak mudahkan diri pilih biji kopi dan senang rekomendasi kepada kawan-kawan. x.com/afiqsazlan/status/1829…

🎉PerluKopi dah ada UI baru! Terima kasih @afifsohaili buka mata saya mengenai kesilapan DB-dump-to-UI. Kena lebihkan penyampaian visual. Terima kasih juga @ImnNazri untuk mockup design yang padu. Juga terima kasih kepada semua yang menyumbang kepada perkembangan ini.

I’ve been learning pygame this weekend. Reading docs and writing code. Let me tell you, nothing nothing nothing comes close to changing a line and tabbing to see your changes. Slowly seeing your code turn into something. Calling a new function and seeing something appear on the screen… Prompting will never. Not saying we should go back. I won’t. Just realizing how much I loved this.

If SWE was fun for you thanks to the programming aspect, what’s keeping it fun for you nowadays given that AI has taken that coding part away?

Larian pertama setelah bertahun-tahun. Kena berlatih sebab dah daftar larian 10km awal Nov nanti. Sebenarnya, saya dah nak berhenti selepas 1km. Saya ‘koyak’ bila asyik fikir nak cukupkan 15 minit berlari. Jadi, saya cuba alihkan perhatian saya dengan hobi kegemaran iaitu tenis. Saya buat shadow swing. Kombo forehand, backhand, approach shot dan volley. Tiba-tiba boleh pula lari lebih laju! Tak rasa penat mahupun koyak. Mungkin saya kena bawa raket sambil berlari. 😂

As an intern, I once discovered the company’s mobile app was absolutely broken on older androids (huge market share) for a month. Nobody had noticed because everyone only owned new iPhones. 2 staff engineers personally visited me at my desk. Never felt more important.

You can’t outwork the whole world. There’s always going to be someone somewhere willing to work as hard as you. Someone just as hungry. Or hungrier. Assuming you can work harder and longer than someone else is giving yourself too much credit for your effort and not enough for theirs. Putting in 1,001 hours to someone else’s 1,000 isn’t going to tip the scale in your favor. What’s worse is when management holds up certain people as having a great “work ethic” because they’re always around, always available, always working. That’s a terrible example of a work ethic and a great example of someone who’s overworked. A great work ethic isn’t about working whenever you’re called upon. It’s about doing what you say you’re going to do, putting in a fair day’s work, respecting the work, respecting the customer, respecting coworkers, not wasting time, not creating unnecessary work for other people, and not being a bottleneck. Work ethic is about being a fundamentally good person that others can count on and enjoy working with. So how do people get ahead if it’s not about outworking everyone else? People make it because they’re talented, they’re lucky, they’re in the right place at the right time, they know how to work with other people, they know how to sell an idea, they know what moves people, they can tell a story, they know which details matter and which don’t, they can see the big and small pictures in every situation, and they know how to do something with an opportunity. And for so many other reasons. So get the outwork myth out of your head. Stop equating work ethic with excessive work hours. Neither is going to get you ahead or help you find calm. Day FIVE of not programming nor prompting (for software dev). I wouldn’t say I don’t miss the life, but I wouldn’t say I’m in a hurry to return to it. This holiday gives me time to think what would I be doing if not in the tech space.

The AI ponzi scheme goes like this: Everyone is generating all these long ass docs and then passing them off for others to read Then the person receiving is like, wtf this is way too long, and hands that into an AI to read and summarize Then they are generating a long ass response back and this cycle goes like that forever. and we call this work now 😅 The token lords watch this from their towers nodding and grinning.

My great grandma married at 13 to a man 3x her age, because they said Japanese soldiers won't touch married women. I asked if its true, my grandmother became very quiet. I stopped asking, and I never want to find out the answer.
