Everyone’s talking about Generative Engine Optimization like it’s the next SEO, but there’s a fundamental flaw nobody wants to address: you have no idea what users are actually prompting.
These tools run their own synthetic queries (“best CRM software”) and track whether you show up, but real users ask things in wildly unpredictable ways (“how do I stop losing deals to competitors”). You’re essentially optimizing for prompts you invented, hoping they correlate with reality. It’s keyword research without search volume data.
Until AI platforms expose aggregate query data (which they probably never will), GEO is educated guessing dressed up as analytics.

Moreover, LLMs don’t get new knowledge unless they’re plugged into tools which differ from provider to provider.
Optimising for Gemini makes no logical sense unless you’re talking about the specific tool environment (for example Google AI mode)
Also, most LLMs just query Google so you’re literally doing normal SEO
