This, yup

People underestimate the fact that if a government wants to, it can just give someone citizenship almost instantly.
According to Grok, Andrej Karpathy is an EB-1 extraordinary ability green card recipient, not a US citizen. Thus under these new restrictions he is not permitted to use, or work on, Mythos 5 or Fable 5 as of 5:21pm tonight.

China will eventually get the GPUs and has the talent to compete with the US. But Europe is really.. royally screwed by its own making. Will be interesting where AU and NZ will fall with all of this.
What Europe should do right now: 1. Call all the European researchers working on AI and return them back with same salary (or they can stay but switch career). 2. Fill EU places having GPUs with money, and put those people there. 3. AI partnerships with China India.

I just found a fantastic use case for @autohiveai. In NZ we have a website for tenders on government work. It has an RSS feed. I now get a weekly email that is LLM filtered down to work that is useful to me.

If you handed your team $3.4 billion for the year and they blew the lot in four months, how pissed would you be? That's Uber's 2026 right now. Microsoft just killed Claude Code internally for the same reason in reverse. If the biggest software buyers on the planet can't figure out what AI should cost them, what's a 20-person business meant to do? Friday -10am NZT. JD (@traskjd) opens Office Hours on AI pricing. Not sure if you’ve checked us out from Wellington Joseph. We launched Autohive as a platform on top of all the major model providers. Been growing well. We launched end of June last year. Seen 340% revenue growth so far this calendar year. Much of our initial adoption has been in NZ (including one political party now running on it too). Goal is to keep driving export revenue. Help match the 93% export based revenue we generate from our other business, Raygun. Thought you might value knowing it’s a local broad base AI company here in New Zealand: autohive.com

Listening to a podcast about the energy market in Germany. Boy oh boy, and I thought the energy market in NZ is screwed. Germany is another level bad.

I have to admit, he's not necessarily wrong in a lot of cases.
JUST IN: Bolt CEO Ryan Breslow fired the company’s entire HR team because they were “creating problems that didn’t exist.”

Today is the second time in my life an effing almost bullet proof tablet case has led to not having my tablet destroyed by an airplane seat. Function over style, ey.

The problem with public service cuts is usually that the most capable people get cut loose and the well-networked clique of absolutely useless paper pushers survive.

To be fair, it's a general large organization problem, but more pronounced in public sector.

I'm reading this and I really think people have a wrong expectation of lifestyle and how much money they need and should have. Totally distorted view of the world in the US and particularly SF Bay area tech bubble.

Same. It's an instant sign of content slop. AI created content is fine, but spend a some time to make it read natural and human. If you don't, I'm not interested in your content.
I'm so sick of reading em dashes and "it's not x, it's y." I'm so sick of it, man.

Big organisations have so little and poor insight into their own customers. My health insurance advertising their policy-covered flu shot to me that I had more than an month ago and got reimbursed for pretty much right away. How hard would it be to run a "SELECT * FROM customers WHERE flushot2026 = 0" query before sending this? Fewer emails and better UX.

We don't have any opinion in NZ? 🤣
New data: Most countries see the USA as the biggest threat to the world. Only Europe generally sees another country as a bigger threat.

EU does a terrible double standard. To describe oneself as a bastion of freedom on the one hand, and on the other hand to denounce VPNs because they could be used to circumvent child protection laws, is almost beyond absurd.

The Andes Hantavirus outbreak is gonna be a tiny blip compared to the impact Covid had, provided this is not a mutation with much easier human to human spread. The first test of this will be if the KLM flight attendant tests positive from a short interaction with the dutch pax that later died.

I've worked on the tech and platform side of the online dating space for a *long* time and this is one of the weirdest things I've ever seen In that field. It might actually work financially for her from an app's business point of view, but it's not about online dating. It's blurring the lines between dating and hiring an escort - fine if you want to do that, but in my opinion a sad sign of a broken dating ecosystem. And maybe that's a symptom of high-gloss NYC or LA dating, IDK - but I can't see any of my (mostly totally normal) friends paying a date preparation deposit to a chick. Each to their own, I guess.
A lady is going viral for creating a “date deposit” app, only dating men who prepay her date preparation costs. What are your thoughts

There's nothing as pretty as telling your AI coding agent to take a note of the environment variable cruft you just waded through and put it into your local @obsdmd directory and be done with it.
