Omg I dont know how obvious it is that Subaru does self harm. Beako literally calls it a habit. This isnt a new coping mechanism that came out of nowhere in Lugunica; he was already a suicidal depressed teenager in earth. Self harm was a method of stress relief he knew due to it.
It's not that he self harms, its that he's reckless and puts himself in such dangerous positions and that he's always overworking himself. Everyone else sees it as self harm, Subaru sees it as just trying to keep up with a world full of magicians and really strong people.

A misconception i see in the Re:zero community in regards to Subaru and Emilias relationship is that subaru only started loving Emilia after arc 2. But this is not what the story says. The story makes it very clear subaru had always had feelings for emilia since the beginning he just didn't understand them. Arc 2 is when ge understood the feelings he *already had*
