I attended #LEADINGxCHANGE and #GLOBExCHANGE last week as 1 of 120 emerging leaders in @LeadingChangeCa’s 2023 delegation! I got to collaborate with leaders from across Canada to ensure we get to net zero even faster. Some key takeaways from the last few days are:

Let me trace the timeline here because nobody's connecting it. Step 1: Scrape the entire internet. Every book, every article, every conversation, every piece of art, every forum post. Do it without asking. Do it without paying. Step 2: Train a model on all of it. Call it "artificial intelligence." Step 3: Go to BlackRock's Infrastructure Summit and announce: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter." Step 3 is where you sell people's own knowledge back to them. On a meter. They took the collective output of human thought, compressed it into a model, and now they want to charge you by the token to access a version of what you and everyone you know already created. One Reddit user put it perfectly: "They stole all this data from us, the people, our life's work, creativity, art, by devouring the internet and blowing through all copyright laws. Now they want to sell it back to us in the form of a utility." Imagine if someone photocopied every book in the public library, burned the library down, and then opened a subscription service for the copies. That's the metered intelligence business model. And they're pitching it to infrastructure investors as though they invented water.
SAM ALTMAN: “WE SEE A FUTURE WHERE INTELLIGENCE IS A UTILITY, LIKE ELECTRICITY OR WATER, AND PEOPLE BUY IT FROM US ON A METER.”

Same probs I had this week and I didn’t even go to the freakin moon.
So the problems on this mission were: - broken toilet - Outlook not working - unable to pair a Bluetooth device - communication with a vessel that's 20m away

I figured out why the Artemis stream felt so different It's because for the first time in decades, we collectively witnessed something that was untouched by politics, celebrities and influencers

Y'all can't be talking about Free Palestine and then be doing shit like this. Make it make sense
Police have detained 21 Orang Asli villagers from Kampung Jemeri in Rompin, Pahang, for alleged trespassing. However, villagers’ representative Azman Idom, 36, told Malaysiakini that those detained, who are from the Jakun tribe, were attempting to dismantle a barricade erected at the entrance to what they say is their customary land. “The incident occurred when residents tore down a blockade erected by a company that claims to hold a land title over the village area. “Previously, there had already been discussions between the villagers and the company, but no resolution was reached." Another fact about data centres in Malaysia: one analysis found that they could release nearly 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually, which equivalent to 2 million cars on the road. Data centres often buy renewable energy certificates but they still largely depend on fossil fuels.
Malaysia’s rapid data centre expansion drew its first public protest, as some 50 residents gathered near a Johor construction site over concerns about dust pollution and health risks. The protesters said dust from the project has disrupted daily life, with air purifiers signalling dangerously poor air quality. 🧵1

I was offered money to promote ASEAN to you, but I said no! ❌ Sebab I rather talk to you about how ASEAN has been lowkey ‘toothless’ when dealing with human rights violations in Southeast Asia 🤧

A million seconds is 12 days. A Billion seconds is 32 years and a Trillion seconds is almost 32,000 years. If you still believe “time is money”, you’re mistaken. This kind of money is about extraction and exploitation.
Elon Musk is now officially worth $405.6 billion, projected to become the world’s first trillionaire by 2027.

Please do not feed wild primates. It can change their natural behaviour. Since Siamangs share 96% of their DNA with humans, feeding them can risk disease transmission. Human food is not healthy for them too. Siamangs are endangered animals & listed as Totally Protected Species.
First time tengok siamang macamni. Nasib behave, ni kalau monyet ni taktahu apa jadi dah ni 😭

I’m having an epiphany this morning. I underestimated how many morally averse people exist in this world. The world is not a good place. We are not as progressive as we think we are. Everything is crap.

Love you American friends but this sentiment holds true every election
I resent how much energy I have to burn worrying about another country’s politics. I resent how much power one country has to sway the fate of the rest of the world. I resent how vulnerable this leaves those of us in the Global South in particular.
