Congratulations to our @AberdeenICUEdu clinical fellow Clare who presented in the top 5 abstracts session at #soa24 this morning. She did a great piece of work on direct discharges.

If you want your clinical practice guidelines to be relevant and adopted then maybe don’t hide them behind a paywall?
Resuscitation fluids, @ESICM guideline 🧵1/2 💦 for volume expansion use crystalloids vs albumin in critically ill pts in general, in #sepsis, ARF & periop if risk for bleeding 💦 isotonic saline vs albumin in TBI & albumin vs crystalloids if cirrhosis 🔓bit.ly/3wLJTj4

Only 17/50 stars this year: not enough time and I decided to learn vim as I went along. It’s not that many stars (yet) but I’m chuffed that I managed to save and quit and I think I might be a neovim convert. Thanks Eric for another amazing year. I’ve gone AoC for Christmas.

As we approach the final puzzle of #AdventOfCode 2023, I am so excited by how many people participated this year. I hope you've taken this opportunity to learn something new! 🌟 Many thanks to the sponsors and the AoC supporters, without whom AoC wouldn't be possible. 💕

Unexpected terms and conditions when purchasing software. Shouldn't be too difficult to comply.

I’m pleased to say that I graduated MSc with distinction and the class prize in Health Data Science from Aberdeen University today. I’m very lucky to have a wife who encouraged me to do this while working full time, coming out of the pandemic, and with a one year old at home.

The P&J live in Aberdeen might not have had the Cloisters or Bute Hall of Glasgow University, but they did try with these lovely balloon arches.

These are the best baguettes I've ever made and I'm so happy. Served with Black Bomber, Highland brie and salted butter. A lovely cabernet sauvignon from Napa and 1992 Bas Armagnac to drink. Simple pleasures.

Ten years ago tonight in Rome, Springsteen played this spellbinding rendition of New York City Serenade. It’s clear from the smiles that they knew they were playing something special. Just sublime. youtube.com/watch?v=T-IZWISZ…

NEW: we need to talk about NHS staff retention. At a time when Britain’s healthcare system is acutely short of workers, *1 in 7* UK-trained doctors are practising overseas. No other developed country is like this, which immediately tells you there’s a problem. Let’s dig deeper:

December 26. I’ve fallen badly behind with #AdventOfCode2022 - 13 days completed. From the looks of the chat on Reddit it’s probably going to be beyond me soon. Still, I’m pleased I got day 11 part 2.

I always look forward to the winter solstice. No fire this year but a 4 year aged glugg and Susan Cooper on the radio. It feels appropriate.

Day 6 #adventofcode complete, another 2 gold stars, and I'm still on-call from last night. It's been a great set of challenges so far this year.

This is rather exciting. If you don’t know The Dark is Rising I would guess this will be a great introduction and a lovely Yuletide treat.

Perfect timing to need to open a new bag of coffee beans.
#AdventOfCode day 1 done. A nice easy start - which is fortunate because I really do not have time for this.
