Together with
@CWSOmaha, we're counting down the days to the 2026 Men's College World Series by highlighting the Top 30 Moments in MCWS history.
For today's moment, we take you back to the 2016 MCWS, where
@coastalbaseball captured its first national championship, but not without a nail-biting bottom-of-the-ninth finish. 👇
Coastal Carolina capitalized on two errors on the same play for four unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning. Arizona immediately responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Chanticleers held onto that lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. A one-out sac fly drove in one run for Arizona, making the game 4-3. With a runner on first and two outs, Arizona's Ryan Aguilar ripped a double down the left field line, but Coastal's
@ajmarks29 played the ball perfectly and held the advancing runner from scoring.
With two outs and the tying run on third (and the winning run on second), the Chants'
@Accunningham18 struck out Ryan Haug on a 3-2 count to secure the 2016 MCWS title for Coastal Carolina!
Coastal Carolina became the first team since Minnesota in 1956 to win the title in its first CWS appearance.
