Data center clearing prospects with a quick update on the Kopshesut Fire burning about a mile west of Ambler.
Again joking about the why peeps be so serious nowadays.
Recap and updates are it started June 4th right there in the village landfill. Winds pushed it southeast toward the Kobuk River instead of straight into town that helped.
Satellite mapping showed it’s right around 1,500 acres now, but a lot of that is just better intel, not massive new growth. It’s early season black spruce, so it’s not ripping through everything like it could later in the year.
As of Monday, crews have it 30% contained.
We’ve got smokejumpers, the Midnight Sun Hotshots, North Star crew, and water scoopers out there dropping over 100,000 gallons.
Almost 70 firefighters working the edges and mopping up. They got on this thing fast and they’re grinding.
Big respect to every single one of those men and women out there. Remote Alaska, early season, landfill start they’re handling it. Winds are shifting and we’ve got some drier weather coming mid-week, so they’re staying on it.
Ambler folks keep an eye on the smoke, stay safe out there.
🔥Ambler Road project is clearing land for there man-camps just joking but this is real and happing now. 🔥They’re sending in air jumpers.
🤔I’m guessing maybe to contain the area don’t need to burn down the whole area just enough for another data center. Hahaha fake news too
It’s Friday…🤷♂️
