As #WorldHoneyBeeDay is celebrated, let’s remember that we need to protect the diversity of our pollinators. #Biodiversity is critical to our maintaining healthy ecosystems. So let’s also celebrate & protect wild pollinators — too often forgotten or ignored in public policy.
1/ 4 We know that our pollinators are under threat. Today, @cbuniversity’s Dr @AlanaPindar blew our minds. Below are ~120 different species of wild bees that she has collected near Baddeck (NS) just this summer. 70% of these species nest in the ground vs in hives.
Our own MSc student @janean_sharkey working in the @1in3mouthfuls lab with Dr. Alana Pindar (@AlanaPindar) and Prof. Nigel Raine (@NigelERaine) published her first paper!

A tale of two seasons. Great overview from @kaylasbees about variation in both abundance & diversity of #bumblebee queens on farmland & paired natural areas in Simcoe/Dufferin region. #BeeCon19@1in3mouthfuls@UofG_SES#ONpollinators
Worried what’s up with wild bees? Emily Agar will be talking about patterns of #bee diversity in Pennsylvania over the last 120 years & which environmental factors might be driving these patterns in Marysville B(ee) at 1430 today. @CSEE_Meetings@AlanaPindar#EcoEvoEnto2019
It's finally published! Assessment of risk to hoary squash bees (Peponapis pruinosa) and other ground-nesting bees from systemic insecticides in agricultural soil. So great to have worked with a fine team to do this painstaking work. nature.com/articles/s41598-0…
Happy Monday folks! It’s Sage here (@HandlerOfBees) and I’m starting my MSc in September, BUT I’ve been with the lab for 2 years already as an undergrad research technician.
Please share: I'm recruiting two Masters students (MA or MSc) to join my @uofg@CSAHS_UoG interdisciplinary People, Plants & Policy Lab focused on bio-cultural approaches to #conservation & forest management in partnership with Indigenous communities: uoguelph.ca/geography/gradua…
