I don’t even feel like he took his own life. He was pushed beyond what a child’s mind and body can even process. This was a murder as sure as if IDF had shot him directly. Everything was taken from him, including his ability to believe in a future that included him.
Be angry!
A 14-YEAR-OLD PALESTINIAN CHILD IN GAZA HAS TAKEN HIS OWN LIFE.
Hamza, a 14-year-old Palestinian boy from Gaza, died after throwing himself from the eighth floor of a building last night.
His aunt, devastated by his death, told Palestinian media that Hamza had lost nearly his entire family in Israeli bombings since 2009.
During the 2009 assault, his younger brother was killed before his eyes while they were playing football outside. In the 2012 assault, his older brother was killed, followed by his father during the 2014 assault.
Traumatized by these losses, Hamza became deeply attached to his mother, the last remaining member of his immediate family.
“They became inseparable. He spent his days with his mother, slept beside his mother, and whenever he went out, it was always with her. She was the only person who could still make him smile,” his aunt said.
“But last Friday, when the Israeli bombing resumed, Hamza began to panic. He felt that his mother was going to die. He cried endlessly.
With every explosion, he screamed in terror. And the next day, his mother was killed.”
This is the devastating psychological reality many children in Gaza are enduring after years of war, loss, and trauma.
