Heartbreaking. Wasteful. Predictable. Wasting vaccines is a luxury few can afford.

With typical British understatement, Rory nails it
A great pity. The UK overseas development aid was not just a manifesto promise - it made immense difference to some of the poorest people in the world, it was vital to our international reputation, and should have been a foundation for the future of our role in the world.
Good opportunity for someone to lead Policy & Learning @THETlinks An important organisation building partnerships that support health workers around the world
I could not be more excited about recruiting to this role of Head of Policy & Learning @THETlinks. Huge shoes to fill, worn by @graeme_chisholm for many years, but a fantastic role that I feel certain will generate great interest. Do help spread the word. bond.org.uk/jobs/head-of-pol…

This G7 summit was the moment for bold, historic leadership to commit the resources needed to end the Covid crisis. That opportunity has sadly been missed. Here's the good, bad and ugly..

G7 leaders have agreed a shared agenda for global action to #BuildBackBetter together. Read the Carbis Bay G7 Summit Communiqué 👇 g7uk.org/wp-content/uploads/… 🇬🇧 🇨🇦 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇮🇹 🇯🇵 🇺🇸 🇪🇺 #G7UK

Bad - Gap between G7 ambitions and what the world actually needs is still huge - 870m doses in next 12 months would vaccinate just 10.3% of the population of low-and-middle income countries - No new financial commitments for ACT-Accelerator

Ugly - 1bn doses are back loaded in 2022. Need doses in 2021 - Should be aiming to vaccinate 70% of world’s pop in next 12 months, requiring 11 billion doses, and a fully funded ACT Accelerator. - Real lack of urgency or sense of true solidarity

The impact & success of the G7's vaccine donations rest on one big factor: timing. "What’s important is we see a focus on getting pledges realised sooner rather than later," said a spokesman close to Covax @alexjacobharris @yodifiji @PaulNuki @UNICEF telegraph.co.uk/global-healt…

Its not too late for @G7 leaders to raise their sights, act boldly, make sacrifices, in order to end the pandemic faster. Not sharing enough doses would increase the chance of a variant developing that eventually escapes vaccines and puts us all back at square one

What the world needs is vaccines now, not later this year. The new US and UK commitments are a step in the right direction, but they don’t go far enough, fast enough. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57436535

Lets hope the events of the next few days turn this around
The G7's failure to act fast enough to inoculate the world against covid-19 is not just economically foolish, it is a moral failure and a diplomatic disaster, too econ.st/3w9x1gV

Crises can tell us a lot about ourselves. The human instinct is to fight or flight. But when societies, countries, whole regions of the world are in crisis, what then? Do we look inwards or outwards for solutions? @wellcometrust wellcome.org/news/failure-po…

Welcome news and I hope the first of many such announcements from G7 countries in coming weeks. Would send an even more positive signal if the doses went to/through COVAX #dosesharing US to share AstraZeneca shots with world after safety check apnews.com/article/politics-…
