This summer, Irene, our eight-year-old daughter, welcomed a new companion named Purple, a small, plush cat with short legs, a tiny tail, and a round, stuffed body. Irene received Purple as a memento during our family’s trip to Yancheng, China. Together, they embarked on an adventure across multiple destinations, including China, Vietnam, Thailand, and, most recently, Japan.
On July 29, 2025, while traveling from Shibuya Station in Tokyo, our plans were disrupted by an earthquake, which led to a sudden change in our train schedule. In the rush to board an alternative train, Irene accidentally left Purple near the restroom adjacent to the JR New South Exit, close to Platform 4. We only realized Purple was missing after boarding the Shinkansen en route to Hakone. Immediately, we contacted friends to notify the station’s lost and found department, but regrettably, no item matching Purple’s description has been reported.
For Irene, this loss is a poignant moment of growth, teaching her valuable life lessons at a young age. For Purple, the chances of recovery appear slim, but we sincerely hope this cherished toy finds a new home where it will be loved and cared for. Irene, an avid traveler who has visited 24 countries and is currently on her fifth trip to Japan, had planned to bring Purple along on many more journeys.
Our family will remain in Japan until August 11, 2025. Should anyone find Purple, we kindly request that you contact us. We hold onto the hope that one day, Irene might be reunited with her beloved companion in a new place.
Thank you for your kindness and understanding.
