did you know? Babybel cheese was invented by Jules Bel for his beloved pet rat, Baby
ALT A clipping from an aged article.
Tiny cheese, big heart: the pet rat that inspired BabyBel cheese.
The famous Babybel cheese was invented by Jules Bel, a French cheesemaker, after his beloved pet rat, Baby, in 1952. Jules wanted to make a small, tasty cheese just for her.
After much effort and taste-testing courtesy of his rat assistant, he created a tiny cheese wrapped in red wax and named it "Babybel." Baby loved it, and soon, people everywhere did too. This sweet story of a man and his pet rat made Babybel a beloved cheese around the world.
