Good morning, AltEdge readers. US equities saw broad gains yesterday. The S&P 500 climbed 0.26%, the Dow Jones added 0.09%, but the tech-heavy NASDAQ Composite led the charge, rising 0.42%. A nuanced picture emerges within the tech sector. ๐Ÿ“ˆ

This creates a bifurcated market within tech: strong performers are often those perceived to be direct beneficiaries or key enablers of AI, while others may face headwinds or simply see profit-taking after strong runs. It's a selective environment. ๐Ÿ“‰

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Nvidia could pay homeowners up to $1,000 a month to host a mini AI data center in their backyard. From the street, it looks like a normal AC unit. Inside: 16 Blackwell GPUs running at full capacity. The AI boom is moving into the suburbs.

Community note
Homeowners pay Span ~$150/month for hosting XFRA mini data centers while Span covers their electricity and internet; Nvidia does not pay $1,000/month. arstechnica.com/ai/2026/05/theโ€ฆ realtor.com/news/trends/nvโ€ฆ cnbc.com/2026/05/09/ai-โ€ฆ

๐ŸšจBREAKING: Nvidia will pay you $1,000 a month to host a mini AI data center at your house. It looks like a regular AC unit sitting in your yard. Nobody walking past would know what is inside. Inside sits 16 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Dell servers running at full capacity. A startup called Span builds and installs them. They are backed by Nvidia directly. The whole unit bolts onto your home and you get paid for the power and Wi-Fi you supply. Some estimates put the monthly payout around $1,000. That is rent money just for hosting a box you never touch. Span says the units deploy significantly faster and cheaper than traditional data centers. That is exactly why Nvidia is backing the suburban rollout instead of waiting for more commercial land. The AI boom needed more compute. It found it in the suburbs. The grid is being rebuilt one backyard at a time. Save this.

Span is partnering with Nvidia to pilot mini data centers (looking like AC units) in new homes. Homeowners pay a flat fee (e.g. $150/month) to Span, which covers their electricity and internet bills. The program does not involve Nvidia paying hosts $1,000 a month. arstechnica.com/ai/2026/05/theโ€ฆ span.io/blog/span-annoโ€ฆ realtor.com/news/trends/nvโ€ฆ

A new report warns of a 'lost generation' in the UK, with 1.25M young people potentially out of work/training by 2031. This isn't just a social issue; it's a profound economic drag. Reduced productivity, lower tax revenues, and increased welfare costs loom large. ๐Ÿ“‰

Walmart's drop reflects concerns about discretionary spending, while Intuit, provider of financial software, is sensitive to small business health and consumer financial well-being. Both are bellwethers for the consumer economy. ๐Ÿ””
