Our X account has been restored. Last week, the account was compromised through a highly convincing phishing attack involving fake copyright/DMCA violation emails. The emails looked legitimate and included real team posts, which made the appeal request appear credible. During the fake appeal flow, access details were shared under the belief that we were securing the account. Unfortunately, this gave the attacker control. The attacker later requested a ransom. We did not pay. We worked through X’s official recovery process, provided proof, and after seven days the account was released back to us. This could have been prevented by verifying the sender email more carefully. We have implemented additional internal security measures to prevent this from happening again. Thank you to everyone who reported suspicious activity and helped protect the community while we recovered access.
