I was sad to hear of the passing of Cheryl Kreuger of Cheryl's Cookies. By all accounts, a remarkable woman who was known for her generosity to her employees. Cheryl's was and still is one of our first food industry customers, even after she sold to 1-800-Flowers. RIP.

Love this bike, it's so clean. That attention to detail. The front end is reminiscent of the Apache by Tim (can't remember his last name). I accepted the challenge of building the next generation but the local shop fell through on financing he moved on to even cooler things.
These controls are pretty insane. Fully integrated hydraulic master cylinders, top triple clamp, throttle, bars, buttons, and levers, along with dashboard. All CNC machined.

The truly enlightened understand how China has has exploited this infinite money glitch to build their manufacturing empire.
Replying to @JasonPremoMFG @grok
The reserve status of the USD significantly disadvantages US manufacturing vs the world. It's never been a manufacturing problem, the money is broken.

Saved a manufacturing job today from a local shop closure. A CNC lathe programmer starts on Monday and I may finally be able to get back to my long overdue projects. I can still play on the mini lathe if I get the itch, but 3k sq ft of fresh factory floor is calling me.

Next month we will be saving another manufacturing job from the same closure. And another apprentice will also start at the same time. It's going to be a busy month.

I came across this today searching around in our old paper files. My dad has never displayed it, but it's part of what drove him to start his own machining business exactly 40 years ago. "You saved us 18 hours of machine time. Here's your piece of paper, you are appreciated".

Negotiation continues. No more junior VP's, The VP is in the chat. I had to deny a request to know my material supplier as gracefully as I could. As a peace offering, I gave them my entire purchasing strategy and DXF files. That didn't go over well, strangely enough.
I week of negotiation to end up where we started. They had the upper hand, they are responsible for 80% of one segment of our business and they know it. They overestimated my willingness to keep it because they don't know what I know about this segment as the industry leader.

NAIA visited Columbus, OH-based member and @robotforamerica founding member, @PathRobotics, to see its physical AI firsthand. Path’s intelligent robots are built to see, think, and adapt in real time, delivering the flexibility and resilience modern builders are using to scale at the speed of relevance.

While the suits were doing their thing this week, I was busy actually making parts - something I think they forget someone actually has to do in the supply chain. Meetings cost me $100's per hour so I show up in my T-shirt and work boots to remind them.

Every time the heat treat company has an oops, I test sharpness using the simple Bess tool (our other setup is quite complicated). We'd like to see 375 or better but 400 is still very close to "fine cutlery". This blade is designed for longevity. My EDC KA-BAR for reference.

Plastic everywhere, as usual. Man this shit makes a mess. These are acetal guide wheels that will have bearings pressed in from both sides. "Precision plastics" is mostly an illusion but it's one we pull off pretty well.

The guys got the collet attachment hooked up to the ST10 so I could use it this weekend. Drinking game: watch the Haas video on how to remove the chuck. You drink every time they warn you about damaging the adapter nut. Then we realized we didn't have a tool. But we're machinists

Is this automation? Not really, just working on my spear thrust and cannon ramming skills. But this is the first job I've ran without really having to open the door, and that's cool.

I love getting ambushed 5:1 in a Teams meeting. You want me to reduce costs but why are there so many of you? 🤨

Costs are going up forever. They tried to leverage a 12 month commitment which is exactly opposite of what I wanted. Whoever bid against me is inheriting a year of pain. I think the customer know this as well, now they have to decide whether burning the bridge is worth the money.

Heavy 303 stainless steel nut with 1.75"'-5 thread on today's schedule. The #3 sized insert is rated for it but it's barely getting the job done with a 2" deep thread. A larger diameter holder would be nice.

These things have fought me every step of the way but I got to the final lathe bit last night. This morning we will mill the wrench flats and ship the two I need, the rest are for stock. I punched a few holes in the meat suit. Pro tip, a little blood offering never hurts.
