I remember when βIndian Hausaβ films first became popular. I avoided them because, even as fiction, the stories seemed implausible, a small group terrorising an entire state or country, killing farmers, kidnapping children, raping women, forcing marriages, and looting properties, all while the government did nothing.
In those movies, the terrorists launched attacks at will, even on soldiers and police, operated freely, posted their crimes, and celebrated victories. I used to say, βNah, this canβt happen anywhere in the world without the government stepping in or the people resisting.β
Now itβs happening right here, close to home. Iβve realised it is entirely possible.
The victims, broken and defeated, are powerless. Because the government enables it, and in some cases, even allegedly takes part in it.ββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
Itβs crazy how far we have fallen.
