It means so much to Barack and me to open up the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. This is where I grew up, where Barack got his start, and where we raised our girls. So having a place where kids from our community can see themselves, connect with each other, and channel their hope—there’s nothing more powerful than that.

GET READY, LOUISIANA! #Arthur is coming. Now, want to be very clear — this is not going to be a hurricane. It’s going to be a messy looking tropical storm with all of the bad weather east of the center when it makes landfall tomorrow night. Flooding rain is going to be the big story with Arthur. It will be an impactful and memorable storm for those of you that get stuck under training tropical rain bands on Wednesday night into Thursday. Once it’s all said and done somebody between Lafayette & New Orleans is going to crushed with 10-20 inches of rain. It’s impossible to know who will be the bullseye until it happens, so I urge you to constantly check the weather heading into tomorrow night. The gradient will be very tight. One parish will see a major flood and the next parish over will see only a few drops of rain. That’s how this will go. But this will be a flood for somebody. For those of you that get stuck east of the center, Arthur’s rain bands will also produce strong tropical storm force wind gusts of 40-60 MPH. That can cause sporadic power outages, knock down trees/branches, and cause coastal flooding. Additionally, isolated tornadoes will be possible along and east of where the center tracks. Beyond Louisiana, the heavy rain & flood threat will spread into Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, FL Panhandle, and the Carolinas on Thursday into Friday. Arthur could bring strong winds to these areas as well. However, I don’t see much of a heavy rain threat west of the Texas/Louisiana border at this time. Be safe y’all. I’ll be posting frequent updates tomorrow.
