Potential inclement weather was not going to stop us celebrating our inspirational cancer survivors at @GildasClubKC National Cancer Survivors Day! ๐ŸŽ‰ I am so humbled to serve on the Gildaโ€™s Club Kansas City Board representing The University of Kansas Cancer Center. This community partnership is crucial to ensure patients receive the care and support that they need, and so many are dedicated to ensure this comes to fruition. Incredible representation also included Turning Point, a community resource of The University of Kansas Health System, and PIVOT (Patient and Investigator Voices Organizing Together), a patient research advocacy program a part of KU Cancer Center that allows the sharing of ideas and research that may lead to improved treatment and therapies to better meet patientsโ€™ needs and improve quality of life. It was an inspiring evening celebrating the awardees at The @samrodgerskc Heart of the Community Awards Gala, including Dr. Vincent Key, an Orthopedic Surgeon at The University of Kansas Health System. Dr. Key is a trailblazer in his field both locally and nationally, and he has done so much for the Kansas City community from providing free and reduced cost medical services to free athletic physicals to underserved high school students. He is also a dedicated team physician for The @Royals for 16 years, and has been recognized as โ€œThe Best in Major League Baseballโ€ twice during his tenure. He was also inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2024 due to his innumerable contributions to sports medicine. Sincerest congratulations to Dr. Key on this well deserved honor! ๐ŸŽ‰

This past week, Joe and I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural @samrodgerskc Heart of the Community Awards Gala. It was so amazing for the community to come together to honor the legacy of Dr. Rodgers and his mission of providing high-quality, compassionate, and affordable healthcare for all. I fervently feel that strong relationships and partnerships with federally qualified health centers such as Sam Rodgers are imperative to ensure timely access to quality care for all patients, bridging the gap to healthcare inequities. As previously overseeing breast imaging at Sam Rodgers, this health center is near and dear to my heart, and I know how tremendously hard its staff works with the resources they have to take the best care they can of patients. It was also great to see that @KUHospital supported the event, understanding the importance that it takes all of us to ensure the needs of our #KansasCity community are met. I feel very fortunate to work in a city and for a health system that comes together to put patients first. #Gratitude

๐ŸฉปRadiology is basically the perfect breeding ground for imposter syndrome. #KansasCity lost a true queen yesterday. @CynthiaNewsome was an incredible person and force of nature. I had the pleasure of first meeting her in 2019 when we passed 3D screening mammography legislation in Missouri. She went above and beyond to amplify this information through her voice and media platform so that women were informed and encouraged to receive the screenings they now had access to without co-pay or deductible. That was just the kind of person she was; an advocate through and through, driven by her own breast cancer diagnosis, offering hope and encouragement to so many. That was also evident in her co-founding Awesome Ambitions, empowering so many girls to achieve their full potential. May she rest in peace and we always remember all of the lives she touched and simply made better. #RIP

It's important for radiology leaders to come together to solve challenges within the specialty. The ACR-RBMA Practice Leadership Forum is an excellent opportunity for leaders to do just that. Learn how with the #ACRBulletin.๐Ÿ”— bit.ly/4tIEY9O #ACRRLI

It was an immense honor to be The @UMKC Commencement Speaker yesterday addressing the Schools of Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing and Health Studies, Business, Education, Social Work and Psychological Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences. My sincerest gratitude to Chancellor Agrawal and Provost Lundgren for the invitation and kind introduction. I know I was to deliver an inspiring speech, but honestly, the graduates inspired me. The following were my closing remarks: โ€œI will leave you with a quote from famous Missourian Walt Disney. He said, โ€œAll our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.โ€ You have shown great courage and fortitude to get to where you are today. So, class of 2026, go out there, embrace the world, seize new opportunities. Donโ€™t be afraid of change. Keep an open mind. Be resilient. Be bold. Be brave. Be humble. Stay hungry. The best is yet to come. My sincerest congratulations to the Class of 2026!โ€ ๐ŸŽ‰
