Reading “Beyond Everywhere” by @ennisgregory. I realise that this beautiful paragraph about a chance hallway encounter at an IEEE meeting describes the start of many of my important business and personal relationships, only at RIPE, UKNOF, NANOG, Peering fora, and IXP meetings!
Question for those who know the North East of England better than I do. What’s fun for kids, South of Gateshead, North of York, and not something I can do in/around Sheffield? I was thinking Diggerland but am not a theme park lover & they’re rubbish with one year olds. Any tips?
Tomorrow (May 4) younger people will find it harder to vote (cf. bylinetimes.com/2022/11/07/v… )
If you consider yourself to be younger, please go and vote on Thursday. 🗳️
Mel's Craft Beers, Vienna 🇦🇹 A reliable venue for Austrian and World beer, a kind of perpetual convenient fallback option of the sort which works particularly well on a Sunday night. 🍻
Gary’s views are reasonable and supportable for any individual, and the reported actions of the GB state broadcaster in response to them are unacceptable.
There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?
Finally seen Top Gun Maverick (it was good if improbable, it would inspire a good VR game) and an ultra HD stream (it was good, was about 18Mbit/5 min avg).
Furious about the Prime Minister’s words in Lisburn yesterday: his NI deal to create “most exciting economic zone [with access to EU and UK markets]. Nobody else has that. Only you guys, only here, and that is the prize.”
In 2016 we had that access in both GB and NI. 1/2
Sunak is indeed right to call access to the Single Market precious prize. It should not have been taken away in an unnecessary and inconclusive referendum. 2/2
Congratulations to my friends at @LONAP who have passed the 1Tbit milestone for the first time this week. 📈 In many ways, 1T is just a number, but with every new peak, it’s right to celebrate growth in the UK peering community. #bgp#peering
On the same day we had an all time edge traffic peak @ AS41230. 🏆 Happy to see the internet be used to deliver more content. Time for both organisations to do some network building, to prepare for the next peak!
The Fediverse / Mastodon is quite a neat toy and an interesting technical implementation. I'm having a play, you can follow me as @andyd@andyd.uk if you're testing it too. [ Andyd.uk/andyd ]
Wednesday night was busy on the Internet - At work we also came within a few % of a traffic record. This year, seems to be many more big sporting events distributed mainly by streaming services. For nerds: our traffic is about 75% PNI or near cache with balance on IX/transit.
Our London #interconnection platform, LON1, broke through the 6Tb/s peak level for the first time last night. This also pushed the total #LINX traffic over the 7Tb/s level to 7.179Tb/s - a new all time maximum peak! #stats Take a look; okt.to/LZRO7B#networks#peering
