not defending ChatGPT about which I know virtually nothing but what makes you think that many/most human beings are not programmed to think/believe/utter formulaic platitudes if not outright misinformation? Dickens' caricatures of individuals fixed in robotic personalities are not really far-fetched. most brains are hives of others' voices & only with effort does one "think for himself." please note that US society is built upon contradictions; it is considered maturity to politely not notice these. at least ChatGPT is "only" a device. just pull the plug.
Every aspect of this is sad and upsetting but I’m always shocked by how seemingly intelligent people are taken in by a robot that talks like a Live Laugh Love sign.

It’s tragic that ppl are so unfamiliar with reading, they think it must be “performative” to read a book in public.

Today I asked my class the question “how would you define magic” and in what seemed like less than a second a ChatGPT voice proclaimed “the definition of magic is….” until the student defused it. The class collectedly gasped. One exclaimed “that’s wild”. I felt…numb?

there’s obviously a nostalgic “humanist” reading of people falling in love with AI bots (ie. everyone is so desperate for any connection now, etc) but the antihumanist one feels correct: humans have always fallen in love with flat/partial/projective/“machinic” qualities in others

I refuse to believe that people read “for the aesthetic” and/or read in public spaces (other than libraries) for attention. I see people reading in public spaces all the time and I have never even once had that impression.

I've been thinking recently that if I ever want a child, I wouldn't want to do with a partner I love because that would fundamentally change the relationship between us from lovers to caretakers. And it also means that there is the pressure of not seeing how the relationship with

the partner develops because you're caught raising a child together. Romantic love is significant to me and by having a child with a lover I feel like the entire structure of the relationship would change. Obviously this is not a practical reality but I wish I could separate

I'm developing a raccoon theory of male sexuality: - male sexuality is racoonish in character - we love raccoons, raccoons are great - raccoons can maul people, and in those cases need to be shot or imprisoned - raccoons do not belong in the workplace

it’s wild how contentless this genre of writing actually is, if you skip over all the aesthetic posturing the only actual take here is undergrad level econ 101 bullshit lmao
