Keir Starmer should condemn Trump’s illegal action in Venezuela. Maduro is a brutal and illegitimate dictator, but unlawful attacks like this make us all less safe. Trump is giving a green light to the likes of Putin and Xi to attack other countries with impunity.

The BBC is the envy of the world, but it cannot survive if it has to constantly look over its shoulder. The BBC must remain as accessible to the public as possible - in the national interest. We cannot allow content to become locked behind a paywall to be picked apart by private and foreign powers. Liberal Democrats are clear: the charter renewal must be the moment we take the politics out of the BBC for good. That means no more government cronies on the Board; sustainable, long-term funding settlements, and a guarantee that the BBC can hold power to account without threat of retribution.
